هل هناك إسلام حقيقي؟ – Is there a True Islam?

يكثر الحديث هذه الأيام عن “الإسلام الحقيقي.” يقول أحدهم لمسلم: دينك يدعو للعنف. فيرد عليه، الإسلام الحقيقي لا يدعو للعنف.نواجه هذا الأمر أيضا كمسيحيين. في تاريخنا جرائم بشعة. يقول أحدهم لنا، الحروب الصليبية ارتكبها المسيحيون بإسم الدين (أو فساد الكنيسة في العصور الوسطى أو غيرها من الفضائح)، فنرد: هذه ليست المسيحية الحقيقية

يفترض المرء بأنه يوجد دين حقيقي وصور مزيفة عنه. واقع الأمر أنه لا يوجد إسلام واحد. ولا يوجد مسيحية واحدة. يوجد أنواع إسلام وتقاليد مختلفة. أيضا يوجد أنواع مسيحية وتقاليد مختلفة. قد نتفق على الكتب المقدسة (وحتى هذه لا نتفق عليها بالتمام)، ولكن نختلف في تفسيرها وتطبيقها

ربما إسلامك لا يدعو للعنف. وهذا عظيم وجميل (ومريح لي كشخص مسيحي يعيش في لبنان). ولكن بعض أشكال الإسلام حاليا في العالم تقود للعنف. نكران هذا الأمر غير مفيد. من الأفضل التفتيش على هذه الأشكال الإسلامية العنفيّة ومحاربتها بالفكر اللاعنفي

أعترف أنه يوجد أنواع وتقاليد وأفكار مسيحية حاليا تدعو للعنف والكراهية والتخلّف. أحاربها (فكريا) بكل قواي. عندما أدعو أحدهم للتعرف على ديني، أحاول دعوته للتعرف على طريق يسوع إيمانا مني بأن طريق يسوع (وتعاليمه وملكوته) جميل جدا ويشبع الحاجة البشرية. غير ذلك لا أمتلك شيء لأقدمه

ماذا سيحدث إن تعصّبت لدينك، وتعمّقت فيه، وفتّشت عن عناصره الأساسية خلف الطقوس الدينية؟ هل ستصبح إنسان أفضل يحيا بمحبة مع جيرانه؟ إن كان الجواب كلا، فالحري بك التخلي عن هذا الدين (هذا النوع أقله) والتفتيش
عن صورة أفضل لدينك، أو لدين جديد كليا.

ما نفع تديّني لله إن كان سيقودني لعدم الإهتمام بخليقة الله؟

دعونا نقف لنصلي

يا رب، سامحنا
نعبدك أنت
الرب الذي لا تُرى
ونكره الإنسان
الذي نراه
آمين

Is There a True Islam?

There is a lot of talk these days in this area of the world about “true Islam.” Someone accuses Muslims that their religion calls for violence. They retort: Oh, but true (real) Islam does not call for violence.

We face this too as Christians. We have a lot of ugly crimes and happenings in our history. Someone accuses us of committing atrocities during the crusades in the name of Christianity (or the church corruption during the Middle Ages or other such shameful parts of our history). We also reply: That was not true Christianity.

We assume the presence of a real religion versus a fake one. In reality, there is no one Islam. There is no one Christianity. There are different types traditions of Islam. There are also different types and traditions of Christianity. We might agree on what our holy books are (and even then we do not completely agree), but we disagree on how we read and understand them.

Perhaps your Islam does not call for violence. That is great news (especially for me, a Christian living in Lebanon). But some forms of Islam at this moment in time do lead to violence. Denying this fact leads nowhere. It is better to search for those violent forms of Islam, and to fight them with nonviolent thought.

I confess that there exists a number of types, traditions, and ideas of Christianity that call for violence, hate, and ignorance. I fight them (intellectually mind you) with all my strength. When I invite someone to my religion, I make all efforts to invite her to the way of Christ. I believe that the way of Christ (his teachings and kingdom) is beautiful and fulfills the human need. I have nothing else to offer.

What will happen if you grow in your faith? What will happen if you sought the essentials of your faith and rooted yourself in them? What will happen if your searched for the truth behind your religious rituals? Will you become a better person who lives in love with her neighbours? If your answer is no, then I think it would be better for you to let go of your religion (or this certain type of your religion), and search for a better image of it. Or for a new religion altogether.

What good is my religious zeal towards God if it does not lead me to care for the creation of God?
