Should We Wish for the Death of the Terrorists? هل يجب أن نتمنى موت الارهابيين؟

May 26.

28 bodies of unarmed Christians litter the floor of the Egyptian desert. They were on their way to pray in a monastery.

9 April.

46 bodies of unarmed Christians spread in and around two churches in Egypt. They were celebrating Palm Sunday.

11 December.

29 bodies of unarmed Christians decorate the church for Christmas. They were there to pray.

 

What is our reaction to this systematic targeting of Christians in Egypt by terrorists? What is our reaction to the persecution of Jesus followers around the world?

 

It will probably be anger. Anger that is fanned into rage as one strolls through social media newsfeed and comes upon some Muslims celebrating the killings as victory.

Anger at a government that refuses to properly defend its citizens.

Anger at religious institutions that refuse to quench hate speech and fundamentalism.

Anger at a world gone mad.

 

Our reaction might be sorrow. Sorrow at the innocence of the victims, the ignorance of the terrorists, the emptiness of the parents and children left behind to pick up the pieces of beloved ones.

 

But could our reaction, as Jesus-followers in this world, be joy?

Jesus once told his followers in Matthew 5 that they are blessed when others hate them, persecute them, and falsely accuse them of evil. He even went one step further, and asked them to rejoice and be glad when they suffer persecution.

He then goes on to say that Jesus-followers are to be salt and light in this earth!

At the end of Matthew 5, he even asks his followers to love their enemies and to pray for those who persecute them.

Pray for what?

For their death? For revenge?

Perhaps pray that they will realize the evil of their ways, repent, and decide to become givers of life rather than death.

So, what should our reaction be, as Jesus-followers, when our brothers and sisters are butchered for no reason?

At the beginning it is anger, always sorrow, but let us not slip into hate.

It is not, although they hate us we will love them.

No!

It should be, because they hate us, we will love them.

Perhaps the death of those Jesus-followers in Egypt is a precious chance to share the love of Christ with those around us…to be salt and light.

Let us die.

Let us die in the thousands.

Let us die in pain.

Let us die for no reason except our love.

Let us die just like our master did.

Naked.

Innocent.

Mocked.

Crucified.

The most horrendous death. But the most victorious…

 

Only after the crucifixion shall resurrection come!

 

Let us stand in prayer

Lord,

Forgive the terrorists,

They know not

What they do

Amen

تسعة وعشرون جثة لمسيحيين عزّل تزين الكنيسة في عيد الميلاد. جاؤوا ليصلوا

ما هي ردة فعلنا لهذا الاعتداء الممنهج على المسيحيين في مصر من قبل الارهابيين؟ ما هي ردة فعلنا على اضطهاد أتباع المسيح حول العالم؟

على الارجح ستكون الغضب. غضب يستشيط سخط عندما تقرأ تعليقات بعض المسلمين المهللة بالنصر على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي

غضب على حكومة لا تعرف كيف تحمي كل مواطنيها

غضب على مؤسسات دينية ترفض طمس لغة الكره والتشدد الديني

غضب على عالم مجنون

قد تكون ردة فعلنا الحزن. حزن على ضحايا أبرياء، ارهابيين جهلاء، وأهل وأولاد فارغي النفس يلملون أشلاء أحبائهم من الأرض غرباء

ولكن هل ممكن أن تكون ردة فعلنا كأتباع المسيح هي الفرح؟

مرة قال يسوع لأتباعه في متى 5 أنهم مباركين عندما يكرهونهم، يضطهدونهم، ويدعون عليهم باطلا بالشر. بل وحتى ادعى أنهم يجب أن يفرحوا ويتهللوا عندما يتعرضون لاضطهاد

ومن بعدها يدعو أتباعه ليكونوا ملح ونور في العالم

وفي نهاية متى 5، هو حتى يطلب من أتباعه أن يحبوا أعداءهم، ويصلوا من أجل الذين يضطهدونهم

يصلوا لماذا؟

موت المضطهدين؟ الانتقام منهم؟

ربما أن يصلوا لكي يدرك هؤلاء شر طرقهم، يتوبوا، ويقرروا أن يصبحوا مصدر حياة لا موت

اذا، ماذا يجب ان تكون ردة فعلنا كأتباع للمسيح عندما يُذبح اخوتنا واخواتنا بلا سبب؟

في البداية غضب، دائما حزن، ولكن دعونا لا نسقط في الكره والنقمة

والأمر ليس مع أنهم يكرهوننا سنحبهم

بل هو لأنهم يكرهوننا سنحبهم

ربما موت أتباع المسح في مصر هو فرصة ثمينة لمشاركة محبة المسيح مع من هم من حولنا…أن نكون نور وملح

دعونا نموت بدون أي سبب غير المحبة

دعونا نموت كما مات سيدنا

مصلوب

أشنع موت ممكن. ولكن أكثرهم انتصارا

لانه فقط بعد الصليب تأتي القيامة

دعونا نقف لنصلي

يا رب

اغفر للارهابيين

فهم لا يعلمون

ماذا يفعلون
